'into the mystic'

The Barbican is hosting a 'new folk' festival... There is a free stage on Saturday 4th Feb which will feature Fence Collective people and others, plus a 'proper' concert at night by King Creosote, Vashti Bunyan and others.

Slightly embarassed by 'new folk' tag, as still dimly remember 'old folk', and I am surely not the only adult traumatised by early memories of village halls full of men in hand knitted jumpers and women singing 'blanket on the ground'.

However, I admit there's a fascination there too... only time will tell if it was a good decision to bring my electro-loving friend along with me.

mp3 blogs

wow - so much free music... not sure if I have enough time in my life to spend sifting through, potentially, years of music but fluxblog, for one, really good sorter, in its own right. Hours of fun.

With all this new music I'm discovering I'd like to set up a playlist or something but not sure yet how to accomplish this... any ideas would be welcome!

since getting broadband...

Since getting broadband I have developed a horrifying new addiction - itunes - its just too bloody easy and those 79 pences soon add up. However, not every band/song I'm interested in is on there (lucky for my VISA).

Despite earnest searching, the Fence Collective remain a Paypal and Post wait away, though I did manage to buy Lone Pigeon's original release 'Concubine Rice'. Now that the Beta Band are no more I need my low-key brilliance from another source.

Fakes 2

Richard Dawkins was on Channel 4 this evening discussing the problems with all religions, and the growth of fundamentalism.

I found it easy to put up pictures of the Scientology HQ in Edinburgh and call it fake (see preceding post), but I have an instinctive reluctance to do the same with more mainstream churches. (I'm a well brought up Scottish girl!).

The church he chose was very interesting though - so modern, so reasonable. SUV after SUV pulling into the car park...

No flotilla of ships on the open seas and a meltdown in the seventies for these guys, just a conference call with the president once a week and an absolute certainty they are decent and right-thinking.

In the past I've taken photographs of fantasy landscapes created for real - (Eurodisney and Versailles) - perhaps I should have a closer look at churches...

Society does tend to give them an awful lot of respect, doesn't it?
